Liz got involved and assisted us with our volunteer program at Prime Skatepark. During our productive conversation, she surprised me with a testimonial via email.
I am a parent with a 10-year-old kid who has just got into skateboarding: BIG TIME! We are both neurodiverse.
As a parent we know skateboard and street culture go hand in hand. This is a rich culture, a tight family of parents with skateboarding in their blood and with kids just as keen. It can be intimidating as a newbie, but the Prime Skatepark welcomes everyone...
"But will my child peel off with their new streetwise mates and get into trouble?!"
Hopefully as we work to build their confidence and self-esteem, we can communicate openly and support our children about how to make safe decisions when they get older. Meanwhile they are safe in the inclusive sessions provided by Prime Skatepark.
As members of the LGBTQ+ community, my partner and I were delighted when tutor Ash checked pronouns and told us about the non-binary nights. We, as parents felt seen and safe.

"This place is amazing, how can I be a part of this amazing space? I want to volunteer here!"
I love volunteering and have enjoyed working with volunteers, both as a fellow volunteer and in paid and unpaid roles.
"But I'm neurodiverse, they won't like me, I'm too weird."
Not only am I weird, I am anxious. I have been plagued with social anxiety for many years and it's only by facing the fear of rejection, doing my best and offering what I have, that I can work through those fears.
Prime Skatepark volunteers are a friendly, safe group of down-to-earth folks who support anyone wanting a chance to engage with a community, to just have a go.
With Prime Skatepark, you are seen, accepted and respected and given the space to find a task that suits your skills and motivation.
For me, a quiet few hours painting a couple of ramps, gives me a quiet space to relax. Knowing they will look fresh and new the next time my youngun is there is rewarding and in some small way, I have helped this safe community to keep on fighting the good fight.
